where作为连词的用法

1、where 含义为at / in the place

where从句完整，若将where置换后，主句完整，则说明可行。句子中的where代表的地点确定

eg: please stay where you are.

请留在原位

从句where you are语法完整，主句替换后为stay in the place，句子完整，可行

2、where 含义为to / in what place

where从句完整，若将where置换后，主句完整，则说明可行。句子中的where代表的地点不确定

he doesn't know where she is going

他不知道她去哪里了

从句where she is going语法完整，主句替换后为he doesn't know what palce, 主句完整，可行，需注意的是，此例中to需移至going 后

3、where 含义为the place, 地点不确定

where从句完整，若将where置换后，主句完整，则说明可行。

eg. I know where their house is 

从句where their house is 语法完整，主句替换后为i know the place, 主句完整，可行

4、where 含义为in which , where从句修饰名词用

where从句完整, 主句完整, 且where从句修饰名词，则说明可行。

eg. this is the room where the children sleep

从句where the children sleep语法完整， 主句完整，从句修饰room，可行

5、wherever

eg. I can go where i want , when i want 

6、含义为：a particular point in a story, process, etc.故事或进程中某点

where从句完整, 主句完整, 且where从句修饰名词，则说明可行。

eg. the project is at a point where the end is  in sight

工程已进入完工阶段

the town  has reached the size where traffic is a problem

该镇规模增大后交通成为一个问题。

另一含义：a particular part of what is being discussed.某一部分

where 从句完整，将where换成part，主句完整，则说明可行

当where为位置的意思时，where从句完整，主句需后接位置名词，则where可行，有时句中可有可无介词，需视情况而定。

当where为位置的意思时, where修饰名词，主句和从句各自完整，则可行

where不表示位置，引申为时间、故事节点，主从句完整，可行

引申为某一部份，从句完整，主句中where换为part 后，若主句完整，则可行
